COLUMBUS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s golf team was impressive on its final round at the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, held at the Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, Ind.
The Tritons, who shot rounds of 318 and 307 yesterday to sit in a tie for 10th place after day one, led all teams on the final 18 holes by firing a 292. UMSL finished with an overall score of 917 to vault to an eighth place finish in the team standings.
Northern Kentucky claimed the team title, shooting an 881 (300-287-294) and was followed by Indianapolis (886), Drury (892), Wisconsin-Parkside (903), Southern Indiana (904), Bellarmine (912), Lewis (914), UMSL (917), Rockhurst (931), Kentucky Wesleyan (936), Illinois-Springfield (939), St. Joseph’s (952), Maryville (953) and Quincy (964).
Junior Tim Cochran recorded a sixth place finish to lead the Tritons, just missing automatic all-GLVC honors. Cochran shot rounds of 75-73-74 for a total score of 222.
Junior Matt Rau came in a tie for 13th place, shooting 76-78-71 for a 225. He was followed by junior Ryan Penfield (81-76-73=230) in a tie for 27th place and junior Matt McKiernan (86-85-74=24) in a tie for 60th place. Senior Blair Spencer rounded out the Tritons top five with a 253 (86-80-87) to tie for 65th place.
