Tritons Basketball to be Broadcast on The U

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis athletic department and the school’s student radio station, The U, have announced an agreement to broadcast selected Tritons basketball games this year via internet streaming.

11 men’s and 11 women’s game will be aired during the 2008-09 season and will be available online at http://www.umslradio.com/station/.

“We are excited about the opportunity to bring internet broadcasting to students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University,” said Interim Director of Athletics Lori Flanagan. “Working in conjunction with The U is a very positive step for us to engage University support in our athletics program. We are looking forward to growing our relationship over the next couple of years.”

The first live broadcast on the U will be Nov. 15 when the women host Missouri Baptist. The men’s team will make their debut on Nov. 20 against Harris-Stowe.

"The U is excited and proud to work with UMSL Athletics to broadcast games for our men’s and women’s basketball teams,” said Keith Robinson, System Administrator-Specialist ITS User Services. “We are honored to bring this new experience to the UMSL community.”

Mike Frazer, Director of Corporate Partnerships and Broadcasting for UMSL Athletics, will handle play-by-play duties.

Frazer has more than 15 years of sports broadcasting experience and most recently was the voice of the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz of the Arena Football 2 League from 2006-07.

“I am excited to be the voice of the Tritons,” said Frazer. “Being able to work directly with head coaches Chris Pilz and Lisa Curliss-Taylor is something that will be very productive. They both bring experience and passion to the gym daily and I am looking forward to being a part of. “

All other games slated for broadcast are Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheaders featuring both the men and women and include Dec. 6 against Lewis, Jan. 2 against Wisconsin-Parkside, Jan. 4 against Saint Joseph’s, Jan. 15 against Bellarmine, Feb. 5 against Missouri S&T, Feb. 7 against Quincy, Feb. 14 against Rockhurst, Feb. 19 against Southern Indiana, Feb. 21 against Drury and Feb. 28 at Missouri S&T.

“It is very exciting to see the U moving into sports broadcasting to promote a sense of community and to strengthen interactions between the academic and athletic units,” said Charles Granger, professor of biology and education and the curators’ distinguished teaching professor.
