March 03, 2010ST. LOUIS, MO. – University of Missouri-St. Louis Director of Athletics Lori Flanagan announced today that Steven Gum has resigned as assistant men’s basketball coach.
Gum spent two seasons on the sidelines following a stellar four-year career at fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference member Drury.
“Steven has been a great role model for our student-athletes and we appreciate his dedication and passion for the UMSL men's basketball program,” said Flanagan. “He has a bright future ahead of him and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
During his time at UMSL, Gum assisted with on floor coaching in practices and in game situations. He was also heavily involved in recruiting as well as the administrative duties within the program, including travel arrangements, film exchange and scouting.
A three-year starter at Drury, Gum earned third team all-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors as a senior after leading the league in three-point field goal percentage (49.4 percent), which also ranked fifth nationally in NCAA Division II. He was second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game and also held averages of 2.97 assists and 1.32 steals per game.
