Poor Shooting Hampers Women's Hoops at Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s basketball team shot just 29.2 percent from the field, dropping a 69-48 decision at Rockhurst Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The loss drops the Tritons to 10-14 on the season, including 6-9 in the GLVC.

Rockhurst (7-17, 3-12 GLVC) took a 31-19 lead into the intermission after UMSL suffered through 20 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes of play.

The Tritons, which missed their first 11 shots from the field, didn’t net their first field goal until the 7:53 mark on a jumper by senior Kristi White, which pulled UMSL within 13-7.

White finished with 16 points, while also recording her 900th career point in the process.

Rockhurst finished the game shooting 38.3 percent and held a 41-35 rebounding edge despite a career-high 11 rebounds from senior guard Lindsey Ransome.

The Tritons committed 19 turnovers, while Rockhurst was flagged for 17, but the host Hawks were able to convert on the UMSL miscues, outscoring the Tritons, 24-5, in points off turnovers.

Rockhurst also held an edge at the free throw line, netting 29-of-46 attempts, while the Tritons were 19-of-27.

UMSL travels to Drury Saturday for its final regular season road game of the season. Game time is set for 3:15 p.m.
