November 06, 2009INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Freshman Shweta Galande of the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s October Golfer of the Month, as announced today by the league office. Galande earned medalist honors at both events the Tritons competed in during the month.
At the Triton Invitational held at Gateway National Golf Course in Madison, Ill., on Oct. 5-6, Galande posted a seven-over-par 149 to earn medalist honors. She finished the two-round Invitational by firing a 76 and 73. Galande defeated Southern Indiana’s Jess Dooley and Maryville’s Kayla Eckelkamp by two strokes.
Her efforts enabled the Tritons to secure the team title in the 18-team event. UMSL posted a 316-313=629 to win by three strokes.
Galande also earned co-medalist honors at the Lewis Mixer Fall Classic on Oct. 12-13. She fired a 79-82=161 to finish in a three-way tie with teammate Amie Koerner and Quincy’s Carrie Lambkin. Her 17-over-par effort at the Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport, Ill., helped UMSL earn the team crown. The Tritons finished first in the four-team field with a 326-331=657, while also teaming with the UMSL men’s golf team to win the mixed team title.
For the month of October, Galande posted a scoring average of 77.5 in four rounds.
On the year, Galande has completed 10 rounds and owns a 77.2 scoring average. She has posted three top-five finishes and placed in the top 20 in all five events she has compete in. Return To Articles
