MADISON, ILL. – Freshman Shweta Galande of the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team shot a 73 on her final 18 holes to claim medalist honors at the Triton Invitational, hosted by UMSL Monday and Tuesday at Gateway Golf Links in Madison, Ill.
Galande, who shot a 76 on her first 18 holes yesterday, finished with a total of 149 to help the Tritons to a 313 score today and a 629 team total. UMSL, who was four strokes behind Southern Indiana after the first round, fended off the Screaming Eagles, which finished tied for second with a 632 after shooting 320 in the final round. William Woods also shot a 632 to tie for second, while Maryville (633) and Lindenwood (638) rounded out the top five.
The Tritons also had two other top-10 finishers with junior Clara Vila tying for fourth place with a 153 (74-79) and senior Amie Koerner placing eighth with a 154 (77-77).
Freshmen Brittany Rogers (89-84 173; T66th) and Chelsea Kellog (91-84 175; T73rd) rounded out UMSL’s top five.
Competing individually for the Tritons, junior Carly Ball tied for 46th (86-82 168), senior Leslie Fischer tied for 82nd (86-92 178) and freshman Samantha Pelc tied for 103rd (101-93 194).
The Tritons close out the fall portion of their schedule next Monday and Tuesday competing in the Lewis Fall Classic in Lockport, Ill.
