October 05, 2009MADISON, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team fired a first round score of 316 to sit in second place at its own Triton Invitational on Monday, held at the Gateway National Golf Links.
The Tritons finished four strokes behind leader Southern Indiana, who shot a 316 on the 71-par, 5,813-yard course. Bethel (Ind.) and Bellarmine are tied for third with a 318, while William Woods and Maryville are tied for fifth place with a 319 to round out the top five.
Junior Clara Vila fired a first round score of 74 to sit in second place, two strokes behind current leader Jess Dooley of Southern Indiana, who is one stroke over par with a 72.
Also for UMSL, freshman Shweta Galande fired a 76 and is tied for fourth, while senior Amie Koerner is tied for eighth with a 77. Rounding out the Tritons top five are freshman Brittany Rogers (89) tied for 73rd and freshman Chelsea Kellogg (91) tied for 88th.
Competing as individuals for UMSL are senior Leslie Fischer and junior Carly Ball, who both shot an 86 and are tied for 57th and freshman Samantha Pelc (101, tied for 107th).
The final 18 holes will be played tomorrow morning beginning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Return To Articles
