WATERLOO, ILL., September 27, 2009 – Junior Clara Vila of the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team fired a two-round score of 147 to earn a second place finish at the Midwest Shootout/Great Lakes Valley Conference Preview, hosted by the Tritons Saturday and Sunday at Annbriar Golf Club in Waterloo, Ill.
Vila finished the first round two strokes under par with a 70 before shooting a 77 on the final 18 holes to finish three strokes behind medalist Sarah DuPlessis of Bellarmine (70-74 144).
Vila helped UMSL to a fourth place team finish and a score of 627 (311-316). Indianapolis won the 10-team title with a 606 (306-300), while Drury finished second (313-309 622), followed by Southern Indiana (316-307 623).
Also for the Tritons, freshman Shweta Galande (78-77 155) and senior Aimee Koerner (76-79) tied for ninth, shooting 155. Freshman Brittany Rodgers placed 49th, shooting 170 (87-83), while freshman Chelsea Kellogg was 61st (92-91 183).
UMSL returns to action October 5-6, hosting the UMSL Triton Invite at Gateway Golf Links in Madison, Ill.
