September 15, 2009SPRINGFIELD, MO. - Led by freshman Shweta Galande's third place finish, the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's golf team earned a fourth place finish at the Drury Fall Shootout Monday and Tuesday.
Galande, playing in her first collegiate meet, fired rounds of 73 and 76 to finish with a 149. She finished yesterday's first round in a three-way tie for first place. Nebraska-Omaha's Danielle Suponchick earned medalist honors, shooting a 146, while Southern Indiana's Angela Dehning finished second with a 148.
Galande's play helped UMSL to rounds of 317 and 323 on the 72-par, 5,979-yard Rivercut Golf Club course. Southern Indiana won the team title, shooting a 611 (310-301) and was followed by Nebraska-Omaha (304-309 613) and Drury (316-311 627). Upper Iowa finished fifth (322-332 654) to round out the top five in the 17-team field.
Also for the Tritons, junior Clara Vila shot a 157 (80-77) to tie for 14th, while senior Amie Koerner finished in a tie for 16th place, shooting a 158 (79-79). Freshman Brittany Rodgers (85-91 176) tied for 70th, while junior Carly Ball (87-92 179) placed 74th to round out UMSL's top five.
Other UMSL participants included senior Leslie Fischer (86-88 174; T59th), freshman Chelsea Kellog (91-94 185; 84th), and freshman Samantha Pele (94-98 192; T89th).
The Tritons are back in action Sept. 20-21 at the Ray Wright/Screaming Eagles Classic, hosted by Southern Indiana. Return To Articles
