May 12, 2010MESA, ARIZ. - Freshman Shweta Galande of the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's golf team shot a first round score of 80 at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships Wednesday to sit in a five-way tie for 34th place.
Newberry College's Maria Luz Besio leads the field of 72 individuals with an even par score of 71 on the 6,159-yard course.
Galande began on the front nine, shooting a five-over 40, finishing with five pars, three bogey's and one double-bogey. She also finished with a 40 on the back nine, paring three holes and recording five bogey's and one birdie.
The championships, which are being held at Longbow Golf Club, consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition.
Galande will tee off for her second round tomorrow at 9:25 a.m. (MST).
