Women's Golf Earns NCAA Regional Bid

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – For the first time in school history, the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team has received a bid to the NCAA Division II Regional as announced tonight by the NCAA.

The 2010 NCAA East Regional will be held May 2-4 at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo., with Drury University serving as the host. Eighteen holes of competition will be conducted per day.

“Our team goal from the first tee shot of the season was to play our way into the NCAA Super Regional,” said seventh-year head coach James Earle. “To finally achieve this for the first time in UMSL history is a direct result of our hard work and dedication by each member of the UMSL women’s golf team.”

UMSL is among nine teams participating in the regional. The other schools include: Grand Valley State, Indianapolis, California (Pa.), Ashland, Drury, Southern Indiana, Northern Kentucky and Ferris State.

The individuals competing are Sarah DuPlessis (Bellmarine), Andrea Vogt (Findlay), Anne-Claire Tans (Ohio Valley) and Vivian Garciaferro (Concord).

This will mark the second straight regional trip for senior Amie Koerner, who qualified as an individual last season. Koerner finished 12th overall with a 239 (80-84-75), recording the fourth-best score among non-team qualifying individuals and finishing one stroke out shy of a bid to the national championships tournament.

There will be four regional sites across the country consisting of both team and individual competition being conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete through 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each regional, will advance to the championships.

The 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships will be held May 12-15, at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., and will be hosted by the Mesa Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition.
