ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team bounced back from a 4-3 first game loss to post a 4-0 victory in the nightcap over visiting Missouri S&T in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Senior Gurdine Acklin threw a complete game five-hit shutout to lead the Tritons to the victory, while junior Andrew Keating went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
The Tritons finished with nine hits with junior Kurt Driemeyer adding a pair of hits.
UMSL scored two runs in the first inning to set the stage with junior Zach Hulbert coming home on a Kenny Bechaud single to right center for the first run. Keating would later come home from third to score after Bechaud was thrown out at second.
Keating then provided an RBI single in the third inning to score Hulbert for a 3-0 lead.
Senior Erik Walk scored the game’s final run in the fifth inning. Walk recorded a double and advanced to third and then advanced home on a throwing error by the Miners catcher.
UMSL moves to 14-36 overall and 10-20 in the GLVC, while Missouri S&T moves to 18-32 and 13-17 in the league.
In the opener, Missouri S&T scored the game’s first two runs, crossing the plate once in both the third and fourth innings.
A Keating solo home run over the left field fence trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
Both teams scored once in the fifth when freshman Drew Standefer came home on a misplay by the Miners’ centerfielder.
Missouri S&T upped the lead to 4-2 in the top of the eighth inning before UMSL threatened to take a lead in the bottom half of the frame. Driemeyer recorded an RBI single to score Walk who led off the inning with a walk, but the Tritons would leave three runners stranded to end the frame.

Bechaud had a team-best two hits.
