Game 2
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team lost the final two games of a four-game series against Drury Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference, falling 7-0 and 6-5.
Drury’s Chris Martson threw a no-hitter in the seven-inning opener en route to the win.
Sophomore Austin Schuler (1-3) took the loss, working six innings and allowing five runs, including four earned, on eight hits.
In the second game, Drury scored once in the first inning before UMSL countered in the bottom half of the frame with three runs.
The Panthers then took a 4-3 lead with a three-run fourth inning.
Then in the bottom of the seventh inning, senior Erik Walk delivered a one-run double to left center, scoring junior Zach Hulbert to knot the score at 4-4. Walk would later score the go-ahead run on a passed ball.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Panthers rattled three straight hits off senior closer Ryne Moleski to lead off the top of the ninth inning before scoring both the tying and winning run.
Moleski (1-2) took the loss and overshadowed a stellar three-inning scoreless outing by junior reliever Andrew Peterson who was in line for the win. Peterson scattered just two hits and struck out two.
Senior Kenny Ford got the start on the hill, working five innings and allowing four runs on six hits, while fanning five.
Walk and junior Brian McCulloch each finished with two hits.
The Tritons fall to 10-32 overall, including 6-18 in the GLVC, with the losses, while Drury improves to 20-19 and 14-8 in the league, with the wins.
UMSL returns to action Wednesday, hosting Lewis in a league doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
