April 15, 2010EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team lost a 7-3 decision to former conference foe and now NCAA Division I member Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Thursday night at SimmonsCooper Complex.
The Tritons were held to just four hits as they fell to 10-28 on the season with the loss. SIUE recorded 10 hits to improve its ledger to 10-22.
UMSL scored all three of its runs in the top of the ninth inning, with two of those being unearned, and recorded two of its hits in that frame.
Freshman pinch hitter Phil Kilgas led off the inning with a single to right field and was advanced to second when freshman Drew Standefer reaching on an error by the SIUE second baseman. Junior Matt Horton then doubled to center field to score both Kilgas and Standefer. Horton would later cross the plate when Michael Hoosen reached first on an error by the Cougars shortstop.
Junior John Tierney added a double for the Tritons, while Hoosen singled in the second inning.
Senior Erik Walk took the loss, working four and two-thirds of an inning. He scattered nine hits and allowed all seven runs, while striking out two and issuing two walks.
UMSL returns to action Saturday in the start of a four-game series against Drury in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
