ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team stepped out of Great Lakes Valley Conference action to host cross-town rival Harris-Stowe Tuesday afternoon, but came away with a 5-1 loss.
The Tritons (10-27) had just five hits and didn't record their first knock until the sixth inning when senior Erik Walk singled through the right side.
Junior Brian McCulloch ended the scoreless game for UMSL in the bottom of the eighth with a double to right center that scored junior Matt Horton, who led off the frame with a walk.
Junior Zach Sturdefant (1-2) took the loss on the hill, working six innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits, while striking out five.
The Hornets (23-17) tallied nine hits.
UMSL returns to league play this weekend, hosting Drury in a four-game series.
