Baeball Rallies For 8-5 Win at Armstrong Atlantic State

Box Score

SAVANNAH, GA. – A four-run seventh inning helped the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to an 8-5 victory at Armstrong Atlantic State Friday afternoon in the first game of the Savannah Invitational.

Trailing 5-4 heading into the top of the seventh, junior Kurt Driemeyer delivered a one-out solo home run to left field. Then with two outs, junior Matt Horton and senior Erik Walk recorded back-to-back RBI singles. The fourth run came on a fielder’s choice at-bat by junior Kenny Bechaud. UMSL sent nine batters to the plate in that frame, scoring four runs on four hits.

The win moves the Tritons to 2-2 on the season, while ASSU had a five-game win streak snapped, slipping to 8-3 overall.

Starting at the designated hitter position, Walk pitched the final four innings in relief, while picking up the win. He scattered four hits and struck out three without allowing a run.

Junior Andrew Peterson got the start on the hill, allowing five runs on six hits in five innings of work. The hurler also struck out four, while walking just one.

Offensively, the both teams finished with 10 hits, but UMSL was 6-for-16 at the plate with two outs, while recording six RBIs. AASU was 0-for-8 with two outs.

Walk also led the team with three hits, while Driemeyer and sophomore Zach Hulbert had two hits and two RBIs each.

UMSL returns to the field tomorrow against Queens in a doubleheader slated for an 11 a.m. (EST) start and will battle AASU again on Sunday at 11 a.m. (EST).
