MONTICELLO, ARK. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team scored eight runs on seven hits en route to its first victory of the season, an 8-1 win, at Arkansas-Monticello Saturday afternoon.
The Tritons (1-2) lost the opener, a 14-7 decision.
Senior Kenny Ford notched the win on the mound for UMSL, working five innings and giving up just one hit, while striking out five. Junior Andrew Peterson recorded the save, striking out six in four innings, and allowing just one run on two hits.
Offensively, senior Michael Hoosen went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Junior Matt Horton scored three runs.
Despite 14 hits in the first contest, UMSL managed just seven runs, leaving 10 runners on base. The Tritons also had four errors.
Senior Gurdine Ackline suffered the loss, allowing eight of the runs on five hits.
Sophomore Zach Hulbert was 3-for-4, while senior Dean Streed and juniors Andrew Keating, Kenny Bechaud and John Tierney each had two hits.
UMSL returns to action next weekend at the Savannah (Ga.) Invitational, hosted by Armstrong-Atlantic.
