Trent Jones | Volleyball Head Coach

Trent Jones enters his third season as head coach of the UMSL volleyball program where he owns a 44-19 record at the helm. He is the seventh volleyball coach in UMSL history.
Jones guided the 2009 squad to another 20-win season with a 21-11 record, including an 11-3 third place finish in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. It was the first time since the 1995 and 1996 seasons that UMSL recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons.
In his first season, Jones wasted little time in directing the program in the right direction as the Tritons posted a 23-8 record in 2008, the first 20-win season for UMSL since 1996. Additionally, the team finished with a 14-3 GLVC mark, the most GLVC wins in school history. For his efforts, Jones was named the GLVC Coach of the Year. He also coached Weslie Gaff to GLVC Freshman of the Year and AVCA Midwest Region Fresh¬man of the Year honors.
Jones arrived on the UMSL campus after serving four seasons as the assistant coach at national power Washburn University.
During his four seasons at Washburn, the Lady Blues compiled a 129-23 record and qualified for the NCAA Tournament each year, while also reaching the schools first-ever NCAA Final Four in 2007. He served as head recruiting coordinator and assisted with all aspects of the program, including game-plan strategies and on-court training.
Prior to his appointment at Washburn, Jones served as a volunteer assistant for the University of Kansas volleyball team from 2002-04. He also served as head junior varsity coach at Graceland University from 2001-02.
Jones played collegiality at Columbia College and Graceland University as a defensive specialist.
At Columbia, he was a member of the 2000 NAIA national championship team. He then transferred to Graceland, where he played three seasons.
Jones, a native of Lee’s Summit, Mo., graduated from Graceland in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with an emphasis in civil rights.

Ryan Young | Volleyball Assistant Coach

Ryan Young is in his first season as an assistant coach for the UMSL volleyball program.
Young brings seven years of coaching experience to UMSL. He currently serves as a club coach for St. Louis High Performance, where in each of his six seasons as a head coach, he has directed his teams to qualify for the Open Division in Junior Olympics. Young also coached his teams to top 10 finishes in the Open Division in 2007 and 2008.
Other coaching experience includes two years as an assistant at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and an assistant at CBC High School.
The St. Louis native also has an array of playing experience, including four years at Missouri Baptist University (2005-08), where he earned all-conference honors. Young also helped lead his team to NAIA third place finishes in 2005 and 2007.
He prepped at CBC High school from 2001-04, earning first team all-metro honors as a senior and second team honors as a junior. Young’s team earned a second place finish in state as a freshman and placed third as a sophomore and senior.
Additionally, Young played five years of club for Missouri Thunder and two years for St. Louis High Performance. He won two bronze medals at the Junior Olympics and took third in the Open Division.

Allie Cherven | Volleyball Assistant Coach

Allie Cherven is in her first season as an assistant coach for the UMSL volleyball program.
Cherven was a three-time All-American at NCAA Division II Truman State from 2006-08, helping the Bulldogs to an overall record of 105-16 and three postseason appearances during that time. She was also a three-time first team all-MIAA pick and all-region honoree.
She owns career records for hitting percentage (.317) and blocks per set (1.33) and ranks second all-time in block assists (403) and is third all-time in total blocks (505).
Cherven began her collegiate career at NCAA Division I University of Pittsburgh, starting 26 matches as a true freshman in 2005 and led the Panthers with 94 blocks.
In four years of collegiate play, she recorded 1,203 kills and 599 blocks.
A St. Louis native, Cherven prepped at Francis Howell Central High School where she was a three-time first team all-conference player. She played club volleyball for six years with Team St. Louis, leading them to regional titles each season and was named a Prep Volleyball Top 250 athlete.
