Rick Gyllenborg | Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coach/ Associate Director of Athletics

Rick Gyllenborg enters his 14th season as the men’s tennis head coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. During his career, he has produced a program that has shown success both on and off the court. He surpassed the 100 win mark during the 2004-05 season, and continues to add to that total, boasting a career record of 137-120. UMSL has had eight winning seasons in the last nine years.

Last season, he guided the Tritons to the program’s third NCAA Tournament and an overall mark of 15-7. UMSL also finished second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season. Gyllenborg also directed UMSL to the NCAA Tournament in 2003 and 2002.

The 2003 team finished with a 14-7 record on the season, while placing third at the GLVC Tournament. The 2002 team went 16-5, including 7-1 in the GLVC, and earned second place finishes in the GLVC regular season and at the conference tournament.

Gyllenborg has led UMSL to the GLVC Tournament in each of the last 12 years, with its runner-up finish in 2002 being the highest.

During his 13-year tenure, Gyllenborg had coached a total of 21 all-conference players, including three freshman of the year selections. Academically, he has coached a total of 30 academic all-conference selections and UMSL's first ever GLVC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Prior to coaching at UMSL, Gyllenborg coached both boys and girls tennis at the high school level and coached on the professional level in the Kansas City area for 26 years.

Gyllenborg is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City and received his masters from the University of Kansas. He also serves as the Associate Director of Athletics in charge of facilities.
