Troy Halterman | Men's Golf Head Coach

Troy Halterman is in his fourth season with the UMSL men’s golf program, and his third as the program’s head coach.

During his time with the Tritons, Halterman has resurrected the program, leading UMSL to the NCAA Championships for the first time in 11 years during the 2010-11 season, where the Tritons placed 15th nationally. During the season, he directed the program to four team victories and 10 top five finishes. The squad also earned a fourth place finish at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. For his efforts, he was named GLVC Coach of the Year.

He had a solid first campaign at the helm last season, directing the program to four top-five team finishes. The squad also earned an eighth place finish at the GLVC Tournament after scoring a tournament low 292 on the final 18 holes.

Halterman also saw junior Matt Rau receive all-GLVC honors and earn an individual bid to the NCAA Midwest Regional, where he tied for 22nd place.

Halterman played collegiately at Oklahoma State from 1991-1993 and at Kansas State from 1993-1996. While playing at Oklahoma State, he had the opportunity to learn from legendary golf coach, Mike Holder, who has won 10 NCAA Championships.

At Kansas State, Halterman was a two-time First Team All-Big 8 selection and twice was named an All-American Scholar. He was also a three-time Academic All-Big 8 honoree. Halterman graduated from Kansas State in 1995 with a bachelor of science in journalism.

In 1998, Halterman began working as a club professional. He has spent time in Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Kansas City. In the Kansas City area he was assistant professional at Wolf Creek Golf Club and Kansas City Country Club. He spent 2007-08 as the Head Professional at Oakwood Country Club in Kansas City.

Halterman continues to participate in competitive golf and has had an accomplished professional career. Since graduating college he has played professionally on the Prairie Tour, Hooters Tour and Golden Bear Tour. He also played in the PGA Tour qualifying tournament. Since becoming a PGA professional in 2001 he has continued to compete in PGA sectional tournaments in both the Midwest and Gateway sections. He has qualified for five National PGA Assistant Professional Championships and two National PGA Club Professional Championships. During this time as a club professional, Halterman has won numerous section and national PGA events. He was awarded the 2007 Presidents Plaque by the Midwest Section PGA for his contributions to player development and growth of the game.

Halterman and his wife Gail have two children, Will and Nick.
