COMMUNITY SERVICE
ABOUT
Missouri-St. Louis student-athletes do a lot more than win games and earn degrees. They also play an active role in community service projects. It is part of the athletic department's philosophy of giving back to a community that has given so much to the university, while also exposing student-athletes to the rewarding experiences that come from helping and interacting with others.

TENNIS TEAMS VOLUNTEER AT ST. LOUIS AREA FOODBANK
EARTH CITY, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s and women’s tennis teams recently spent the afternoon donating their time and efforts to the St. Louis Area Foodbank in nearby Earth City, Mo.
The Foodbank is a distribution center that helps to supply food to groups and organizations that help feed needy citizens in the St. Louis area. Food is donated from large corporations on pallets to the Foodbank and then repackaged to go where it is most needed.
The tennis teams spent the afternoon repackaging food donated by Wal-Mart – ultimately processing 299 cases.
According to the Foodbank's calculations, the tennis team’s effort provided 6,104 meals for the hungry.
"I was extremely proud of the effort that the tennis team put forth for this worthy cause," said tennis head coach Rick Gyllenborg. "Each student-athlete worked hard and got a little dirty in the process, but I think they enjoyed the experience of giving back to the community."
