COMMUNITY SERVICE

ABOUT

Missouri-St. Louis student-athletes do a lot more than win games and earn degrees. They also play an active role in community service projects. It is part of the athletic department's philosophy of giving back to a community that has given so much to the university, while also exposing student-athletes to the rewarding experiences that come from helping and interacting with others.

Women's Soccer Participating in America SCORESWOMEN'S SOCCER PARTICIPATING IN AMERICA SCORES

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Continuing with its philosophy of giving back, student-athletes from the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s soccer team are participating in a national program known as America SCORES. It’s a curriculum that brings an after school program to urban public schools across the country using soccer and literacy.

The program uses teamwork learned on the soccer field as support for teaching the students poetry in the classroom.

UMSL women’s soccer is in the midst of visiting all eight schools from St. Louis that are SCORES members this spring. Those schools include Adams Elementary, Downtown Academy at Patrick Henry, Ashland Elementary, Lexington Elementary, Bryan Hill Elementary, Nance Elementary, Clark Elementary and Sherman Elementary.

At each of these schools, head coach Beth Goetz and her Tritons will run a soccer practice for approximately 30 kids.
